A little postscript to my very full trip to Germany: In Berlin, I didn’t just take part in insightful political discussions, give a talk, and catch the fierce sounds of a Greek punk band. A very special highlight was reuniting over dinner with four former classmates from our (for many, legendary) time at the Deutsche Schule Athen. Είχαν προηγηθεί δύο σημαντικές εκδηλώσεις:
Ο Ronald Meinardus βρέθηκε στο Βερολίνο και συναντήθηκε μεταξύ άλλων και με τον Παναγιώτη Πικραμμένο, στο πλαίσιο του πρώτου Ελληνο-γερμανικού Διαλόγου Think Tanks και έστειλε ένα πρώτο σχόλιο
Τίποτε παρόμοιο δεν είχε συμβεί ποτέ μέχρι τώρα. Πριν από λίγα μόλις λεπτά ολοκληρώθηκε στο Βερολίνο ο πρώτος Ελληνο-γερμανικός Διάλογος Think Tanks. Για δύο ημέρες, μια ομάδα πολιτικών, ειδικών και δημοσιογράφων συναντήθηκε κεκλεισμένων των θυρών, προκειμένου να ενημερωθεί αμοιβαία και να συζητήσει τα πιο κρίσιμα ζητήματα της εποχής μας, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της κατάστασης των διμερών σχέσεων. Οι συζητήσεις εκτείνονταν από το μέλλον της Ευρώπης και τον πόλεμο στην Ουκρανία έως την ενεργειακή και τη μεταναστευτική πολιτική. Μεταξύ των επιφανών Ελλήνων συμμετεχόντων ήταν και ο πρώην πρωθυπουργός Παναγιώτης Πικραμμένος, με τον οποίο με συνδέει μια προσωπική σχέση μέσω του παλιού μας σχολείου, της Γερμανικής Σχολής Αθηνών.
Griechenland durch die Augen den Deutschen und umgekehrt
It was both a genuine pleasure and an honor to speak about my current research on German perceptions of Greece, following an invitation from the Greek Ambassador, Alexandros Papaioannou, at a public event hosted in the premises of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic. The strong turnout – made possible through the cooperation of the Greek Community of Berlin, which represents more than 25,000 Greeks in the German capital, Exantas, the German-Greek Association of Berlin and, last not least, the Association of German-Greek Societies (VDGG), the umbrella organization of over 30 German Philhellenic associations – gave the occasion added significance.
